Over the past couple of years, Petco has taken steps to reduce our environmental impact, including the installation of energy management systems in 98% of our Petco pet care centers. These systems have reduced our energy consumption by 4 million kilowatt hours each year, reducing our carbon footprint by 2,828 metric tons of CO2. That’s enough energy to charge more than 360 million cellphones!
Our National Support Center in San Diego, for example, is topped by nearly 3,000 solar panels that supply 50% of the building’s energy consumption Eco-friendly building materials like reclaimed wood, non-VOC paint, air thane white reflective foam and K-13 insulation were used in construction. We’ve also installed drought-tolerant landscaping, electric car charging stations and more than 100 skylights to optimize energy usage. Our satellite office utilizes high-efficiency HVAC units on an energy management system. Lighting throughout the building is energy-efficient, zoned and on automatic timers. In addition to high efficiency appliances in the café, water-saving fixtures in the restrooms and light harvesting technology throughout the facility.
