SAN DIEGO, Oct 30, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Selected from more than 5,000 entries, a photo of a Yorkie named Jack dressed as Mork from Mork & Mindy – taken by June Harper of Wailuku, Hawaii, as a tribute to the late Robin Williams – has won the top prize in Petco's third annual Halloween "Make a Scene" photo contest. Harper will receive the $25,000 grand prize, plus a one-year supply of Old Mother Hubbard treats for Jack.
"I chose to make a Mork costume for my dog because I wanted to honor a very special person we all lost," said Harper. "I'd like to think Robin Williams would laugh if he could see the photo of Jack in the iconic red suit. Winning the contest and knowing that so many people will see this photo makes me feel like I accomplished my goal of honoring the man behind so many endearing characters."
Runner-up winners were also selected among three categories (dog, cat and companion animal) to win $500 Petco gift cards, plus a one-year supply of Old Mother Hubbard treats.
- In the dog category, Janae Snyder of Cornelius, Ore., won for her photo of three Pomeranians dressed as ballerinas and perfectly posed at a pint-sized ballet bar.
- Brooke Arnold of Kansas City, Mo., took the cat category prize for her photo of a Sphynx cat dressed as a Girl Scout selling cookies door-to-door.
- And, in the companion animal category, Kim Gray of McCordsville, Ind., won for her photo of a gecko dressed as a bartender and creatively serving crickets, meal worms and water to his friends.
This year's contest received more than 5,000 entries from Instagram users making crafty Halloween scenes with pets of all kinds. All entries were reviewed and winners were selected by a panel of Petco judges based on creativity, originality, appeal and representation of Petco's "Make a Scene" theme.
