SAN DIEGO, May 11, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- In keeping with its fast-paced 2016 growth plan, which includes 27 new store openings year-to-date, Petco, a leading specialty retailer of premium pet food, supplies and services, is expanding its distribution network with the official grand opening of its newest distribution center in Reno this month. The company will also open a new Unleashed by Petco store in Maryland, and re-open a newly expanded Southern California Petco store in place of a previous Unleashed by Petco locations.
Built to support the company's fast-growing operations, the new 770,000-square-foot Reno facility is Petco's tenth distribution center and the first the company has constructed and designed specifically to meet its own needs. Open for partial operations since October 2015 and celebrating its official grand opening with a ribbon cutting and community event on May 11, the facility is now fully operational and services more than 200 Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores in the Northwest region, as well as petco.com.
The new Unleashed by Petco store offers pet parents and their pets' dog training areas, adoption centers, a large made-in-the-USA assortment and natural and organic dog and cat food. The newly expanded, full-format Petco store will continue to offer a wide selection of private label offerings as well as branded products sold only at Petco, including the Dr. Seuss and Star Wars Pet Fan Collections.
The retail locations offer a one-stop shopping experience where pet parents and their companions can purchase anything from pet food to toys and apparel, while also addressing the holistic health needs of pets via the Petco grooming salon and in-store Vetco clinics at both Petco and Unleashed by Petco. In addition, newly added in-store habitats for adoptable cats will enhance Petco's monthly in-store adoption events for pet parents looking to give a furry friend a forever home.
