SAN DIEGO, Sept. 28, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Every holiday is better with pets, and Halloween is no exception. According to the National Retail Federation's 2017 Halloween Spending Survey, 179 million Americans will partake in Halloween festivities with 16 percent planning to dress pets in costume. Petco has you covered with costume contests leading up to the big holiday and an assortment of costumes and accessories now available online and in stores nationwide at Petco's "Bootique".
To help pet parents get their furry friends ready for trick-or-treating, Petco has introduced a collection of spooky and hilarious Halloween costumes – many of which have been recognized by the National Retail Federation as this season's most popular for pets. According to the survey, 10 percent of pet lovers will dress their animal in a pumpkin costume, while seven percent will dress their cat or dog as a hot dog and four percent as a lion or pirate. Other costumes that make the list include a bumblebee and witch.
Pet parents looking to go beyond the costume are in luck, as Petco also offers a wide selection of Halloween-themed toys for a ghoulish good time, such as the Bootique Skeleton Ring Dog Toy, Bootique Bat Stick Dog Toy and Bootique Trio Candy Corn Rope Dog Toy.
To add to the spirit of the season, Petco will also host a series of online and in-store events throughout October to create memorable moments for pets and pet parents:
- Make A Scene: Beginning Oct. 1 and running through Oct. 26, pets and pet parents can participate in Petco's annual Make a Scene Photo Contest on Instagram. For a chance to win a $10,000 grand prize, pet parents are encouraged to post photos of their costumed pet in a scene that matches their pet's costume. Entrants must simply follow @petco on Instagram and tag their photos with the hashtag #HalloweenSceneContest.
- Halloween Pet Costume Contest: On Saturday, Oct. 14, at 1 p.m. local time, Petco's in-store Halloween pet costume contests will give pets the chance to strut their stuff and win a spooktacular prize at Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores nationwide.
- Reptile Rally and Most BOOtiful Contest: On Saturday, Oct. 21, at 1 p.m. local time, slither to the nearest Petco for scales, tails and creepy-crawly Halloween fun with a celebration of reptiles and the "Most BOOtiful Reptile Costume Contest."
