As SVP, Services, Stephen supports Petco’s services business, which includes Vetco Total Care hospitals, mobile Vetco Vaccination Clinics, pet grooming and dog training at more than 1,400 pet care centers in the United States and Puerto Rico. He leads expansion efforts, operational excellence and vet care strategy, delivering high-quality pet care to pet families nationwide.
With nearly 30 years of experience, Stephen is known for developing and guiding large teams within the healthcare industry, including veterinary medicine. A trained pharmacist, he leads with a focus on operational excellence and a strong emphasis on world-class care. Stephen believes serving the individual needs of the pet families in our communities begins with supporting our own Petco partners (employees) and fostering high-performing teams.
Prior to joining Petco in 2024, Stephen held various leadership roles at Mars Global Petcare, where he drove the strategy for and supported operations at Banfield’s 1,000 general practice hospitals and BluePearl’s 120+ specialty and emergency pet hospitals. As Vice President, he led strategic hospital growth and was responsible for their central operations, real estate, construction, facilities, and acquisition teams. Stephen began his career helping patients as a licensed pharmacist, before serving in pharmacy supervisor, district manager and region manager roles at CVS Health and Eckerd Pharmacy.
Stephen is a dedicated leader with a profound passion for talent development and mentorship, who has nurtured countless new professionals across his career. A believer in the power of fostering an inclusive workplace as well as diversity in leadership, Stephen is involved in a number of professional development groups, including Petco’s Latine employee resource group, PetContigo.
Stephen earned a bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He and his family — including Harley, a six-year-old cocker spaniel who loves chasing birds and guarding the household — reside in Camas, Washington. With three active teenagers, they enjoy participating in year-round sports like soccer, track, cross-country and dance.
