PETCO is going to the dogs and cats and hamsters in celebration of the grand opening of the new Poughkeepsie store located at 808-818 South Road, on Saturday and Sunday, September 9 and 10, 2000.

Special events during the weekend will focus on fun with animals. Customers are encouraged to bring in their pets for free nail trimming, Hamster Races and the Fat Cat Contest. The winner in the Hamster Race takes home a new S.A.M. Palace Kit while the tubbiest tabby wins a year's supply of Nutro Lite cat food. Two animal rescue organizations will be offering pet adoptions throughout the weekend. A face-painting clown and cartoon caricatures round out the festivities.

"This is going to be a terrific grand opening," says Store Manager Gail Daniels. "Visitors are going to love our full assortment of premium pet supplies and superior customer service," Daniels added. The 13,000 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
