PETCO is planning a fun and informative weekend to celebrate the grand opening of the new Santa Fe store located at 2006 Cerrillos Road, on Saturday, September 30, and Sunday, October 1, 2000.

Highlighting the weekend's special events will be visits by five animal rescue organizations. Responsible pet owners will be able to discuss adopting abandoned animals with Greyhound Companions of New Mexico, No More Homeless Pets Coalition, Heart & Soul Animal Sanctuary, Pecos P.A.W.S. and CCI - New Mexico. Pet owners are encouraged to bring in their four-legged friends for a Dog/Owner Look-Alike Contest, a Fat Cat Contest and professional pet photography. The Exotics of the Rainforest show, a face-painting clown and a mountain bike giveaway add to the festivities.

"We're sure that this will be an exciting but educational grand opening," says Store Manager Polly Kearney. "We want visitors to have a good time, but we also want everyone to realize that owning a pet is a responsibility," Kearney added. The 15,700 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon.

Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
