A message of responsible pet ownership is being shared between Elaine Boydston, left, a volunteer with L.I.F.E. Animal Rescue, and Jennifer Blum. The pair met at a companion animal adoption event held recently at the Thousand Oaks, CA, PETCO where Miata, the kitten Jennifer is holding, was looking for a loving home. PETCO and its hundreds of local adoption shelter partners across the nation recognize that many people either adopt or purchase companion animals as holiday gifts. Now, as throughout the year, those considering adding a pet to their family need to understand that they are making a life-long decision. The message "Be responsible, love a pet for life!" is being echoed all across the country. In addition to providing animal shelters a place to conduct ongoing adoption screenings, PETCO currently offers its customers an opportunity to support local animal welfare groups through its "Tree of Hope" fundraising campaign. Pet-loving people can donate $1, $5, $10, $15 or more in the national campaign that is expected to raise more than $1 million. Proceeds of the campaign, which ends December 24, will go to hundreds of local organizations that provide direct support to companion animals.
