Spring is a time of renewal. At PETCO pet food and supply stores, this spring is the eighth year the stores will formally be raising money for hundreds of animal welfare organizations that provide hope and a second chance to companion pets and the fourth year hosting a national companion pet adoption campaign.
That second chance comes in the form of multiplying paper bunnies at PETCO stores each spring. Those paper bunnies are the symbolic part of a fundraising campaign called "Spring a Pet," developed for the stores by PETCO's non-profit organization, the PETCO Foundation. Last year's campaign raised more than $632,000.
This year customers will have from now until April 15 to donate $1, $5, $10 or $20. All donors will receive a paper cutout bunny that can be signed and displayed in the store or taken home as a reminder of their donation. Those customers donating $20 or more will receive a specially marked PETCO Foundation Pet Grass (while supplies last), which is suitable for most any animal to enjoy.
Proceeds from this program go to support local animal welfare groups that focus their efforts on adoptions programs in their communities.
In conjunction, the fourth annual "National Pet Adoption Days" will be held April 21-22. All PETCO stores around the nation are expected to have animal welfare groups conducting adoption pre-screenings at the stores.
"We're pleased to offer our customers and all pet loving people an opportunity to help their local animal welfare adoption groups by making donations or adopting a new companion animal into their family," said Paul Jolly, PETCO Foundation Director.
