PETCO Animal Supplies Inc. and its non-profit PETCO Foundation are sponsoring the Fourth Annual National Pet Adoption Days campaign on April 21st and 22nd. PETCO is hosting local adoption groups in more than 500 participating stores to help find loving homes for homeless animals.
Although PETCO stores conduct ongoing adoption efforts with participating animal shelter partners, this annual event is designed to encourage adoption as a responsible way to make a companion animal part of the family. In the last three years this annual two-day campaign has helped find homes for over 7,000 animals.
Several hundred animal shelters will be participating in this weekend event and will have animals available for adoption. The participating shelters require applications from each prospective caregiver. In addition, potential pet adopters are educated about what it takes to be a responsible "pet parent." This helps ensure that once a pet is adopted it won't be returned to the shelter.
"What is most remarkable about the National Pet Adoption Days campaign is how our unique partnership with animal shelters, inspired by our common goal to find good homes for pets, generates remarkable results," says Brian Devine, PETCO Chairman, President and CEO. "We want to help our shelter partners find homes for all adoptable pets."
For hours and location of the local adoptions on Saturday, April 21, and Sunday, April 22, call your local PETCO store, or check out the company's website at http://www.petco.com/ to find the nearest location.
