PETCO announces the opening of its newest Michigan store, located in Troy at 12765 Harper Village Drive. The store celebrates its grand opening weekend Saturday and Sunday, October 20 and 21, 2001.
PETCO first began serving pet care needs in Michigan in the fall of 1997 when it acquired a pet retail chain that included 7 Michigan locations. Since then 6 more stores have been opened.
The new Troy location will be one of the first of a new design concept called the "PETCO Millennium Store." This new store design has two distinct differences from the previous PETCO store designs. The first and most notable change is that upon entering, one is greeted by a vast family of companion animals. The second is a new signage program that focuses on educating owners about pet care tips such as proper diet, exercise, grooming and housing, all of which help establish PETCO as the "Pet Authority."
"Besides offering excellent customer service, our main purpose will be to serve the community," said Store Manager Tom Bureau. "We plan to work closely with rescue and adoption groups in our area, as well as provide area schools field trip opportunities," Bureau added.
During the Troy Grand Opening, pet owners are encouraged to bring their hamsters to the Hamster Race, their hefty kitty to the Fat Cat Contest, or to show off their creativity in the Best Dressed Pet Contest.
In addition, a pet photographer will be on hand and customers will have the opportunity to get their pet's nails trimmed. For the kids, there will be a clown offering face painting and pony rides. Several animal rescue organizations will also be available throughout the weekend offering adoptions and information.
The 15,543 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
