PETCO announces the opening of its newest Connecticut store, located in Enfield at 25 Hazard Ave. The store celebrates its grand opening weekend Saturday and Sunday, October 27 and 28, 2001.
PETCO first began serving pet care needs in Connecticut in the fall of 1994 when it opened its first location in Stratford. Since then 12 more stores have been added to the state with a total of 61 in the New England area.
The new Enfield location will be one of the first of a new design concept called the "PETCO Millennium Store." This new store design has two distinct differences from the previous PETCO store designs. The first and most notable change is that upon entering, one is greeted by a vast family of companion animals. The second is a new signage program that focuses on educating owners about pet care tips such as proper diet, exercise, grooming and housing, all of which help establish PETCO as the "Pet Authority."
"We are the first 'Millennium' style store in the Northeast," said Store Manager Larry Renaldi. "We invite everyone to bring their pets and come down to experience our newly designed store," Renaldi added.
Many pet-related events are scheduled for the weekend. Bring your imagination and enter the Best Costume Look-Alike Contest for a chance to win exciting prizes. Owners are also encouraged to bring their small furry friends to enter the Time Trials. Hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils and mice are welcome.
In addition, a pet photographer will be on hand and customers will have the opportunity to enjoy demonstrations by Rainforest Reptiles. For the kids, there will be face painting. Several animal rescue organizations will also be available throughout the weekend offering adoptions and information.
The 15,096 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
