PETCO announces the opening of its newest Maryland store, located in Bowie at 15461 Excelsior Drive. The store celebrates its grand opening weekend Saturday and Sunday, November 17 and 18, 2001.
PETCO first began serving pet care needs in Maryland in January of 1993 when it opened its first location in Laurel. Since then 10 more stores have been added to the state with a total of 59 in the surrounding areas.
The new Bowie location will be one of the first of a new design concept called the "PETCO Millennium Store." This new store design has two distinct differences from the previous PETCO store designs. The first and most notable change is that upon entering, one is greeted by a vast family of companion animals. The second is a new signage program that focuses on educating owners about pet care tips such as proper diet, exercise, grooming and housing, all of which help establish PETCO as the "Pet Authority."
"We are the first 'Millennium' style store in the Maryland," said Store Manager Amy Lyons. "We invite everyone to bring their pets and come down to experience our newly designed store," Lyons added.
Animals are always welcome at PETCO, particularly during grand openings. There will be information regarding obedience training and vaccinations, as well as free pet toenail trims. For the kids, there will be face painting and a moon bounce. Several animal rescue organizations will also be available throughout the weekend offering adoptions and information.
The 12,464 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
