PETCO announces the opening of its newest Massachusetts store, located in Taunton at 65A Taunton Depot Drive and Route 140. The store celebrates its grand opening weekend Saturday and Sunday, December 1 and 2, 2001.
PETCO first began serving pet care needs in Massachusetts in April of 1995 when it opened its first location in Boston. Since then 23 more stores have been added to the state with a total of 63 in the New England area.
The new Taunton location will be one of the first of a new design concept called the "PETCO Millennium Store." This new store design has two distinct differences from the previous PETCO store designs. The first and most notable change is that upon entering, one is greeted by a vast family of companion animals. The second is a new signage program that focuses on educating owners about pet care tips such as proper diet, exercise, grooming and housing, all of which help establish PETCO as the "Pet Authority."
"We are extremely excited to be part of the PETCO community," said Store Manager Tom Labonte. "We invite everyone to bring their pets and come down to experience our newly designed store," Labonte added.
Grand opening celebrations will kick off on Saturday morning with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Taunton Mayor Thaddeus Strojny. In addition, there will be demonstrations by PETCO vendors and a special appearance by Rainforest Reptiles. A photographer will also be in attendance to take pet photos. For the kids, there will be a face painting. Several animal rescue organizations will also be available throughout the weekend offering adoptions and information.
The 12,000 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
