Animal Shelter, Inc. and Buddy Dog Humane Society are searching for a few good adopters for their four-legged residents. That is what being a part of the first national "Home 4 the Holidays" adoption campaign is all about. Campaign organizers hope to find loving homes for more than 150,000 pets across the nation. The adoption effort runs through January 6, 2002.
Animal Shelter, Inc. of Sterling, MA has joined a coalition of nearly 500 shelters throughout the United States to host the "Home 4 the Holidays" campaign, sponsored by PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc., the PETCO Foundation, the IAMS Company, Home Again Microchips and the Rancho Santa Fe, CA, based Helen Woodward Animal Center (HWAC).
HWAC Executive Director Michael Arms created the first "Home 4 the Holidays" campaign in 1999 and it was a tremendous success. Starting only in San Diego County in southern California, the effort helped find homes for 2,500 pets in that inaugural year. The next year, the campaign broadened to a regional effort and found homes for 20,000 homeless pets.
"What better way to celebrate the holidays than to provide a loving home for a companion animal?" Arms asks. "Our shelter partners, like us, want to empty our kennels during the holidays. We want to find responsible, loving, and forever families for the animals in our care. They all deserve a second chance at a wonderful life."
Leigh Grady of Animal Shelter, Inc. has trained staff or volunteers who can help families and individuals choose the perfect pet for their personalities and lifestyles.
"We're pleased to be part of a nationwide effort to educate and promote companion animal adoption to pet-loving people," said Bob Rau, Regional Marketing Coordinator. "Here in our community and around the nation, we, with our shelter partners are making a difference in saving animal's lives."
Pets adopted during the "Home 4 the Holidays" campaign will go to their new homes with a special holiday meal of IAMS dog or cat food, a PETCO gift coupon and helpful information on raising a pet. Adopters can also visit their local PETCO store and receive an Adoption Gift Booklet with values of over $130, just by showing their adoption agreement or receipt.
PETCO is a leading premium pet food and supplies retailer with approximately 560 stores in the U.S. There are 65 stores in the Boston and Worcester area in Massachusetts, as well as New Hampshire, Connecticut, and New York.
