PETCO announces the opening of its newest Michigan store, located in Muskegon at 5239 Harvey Norton Shore. The store celebrates its grand opening weekend Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13, 2002.
PETCO first began serving pet care needs in Michigan in November of 1997 when it opened its first locations. Since then 13 more stores have been added to the state.
The new Muskegon location will be one of the first of a new design concept called the "PETCO Millennium Store." This new store design has two distinct differences from the previous PETCO store designs. The first and most notable change is that upon entering, one is greeted by a vast family of companion animals. The second is a new signage program that focuses on educating owners about pet care tips such as proper diet, exercise, grooming and housing, all of which help establish PETCO as the "Pet Authority."
"We are excited about presenting our new store," said Store Manager Kelly Hirschfeld. "We invite everyone to bring their pets and come down to experience this new design," Hirschfeld added.
Animals are always welcome at PETCO, particularly during grand openings. Numerous contests will be held during the weekend. Owners and pets will receive prizes for hamster races, best dressed pet, fattest cat, shaggiest dog and everyone's favorite -- Pet & Owner Look-A-Like Contest.
The 18,000 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
