PETCO announces the opening of its newest Virginia store, located in Stafford at 309 Worth Ave. The store celebrates its grand opening weekend Saturday and Sunday, January 12 and 13, 2002.
PETCO first began serving pet care needs in Virginia in June of 1993 when it opened its first location in Springfield. Since then 9 more stores have been added to the state.
The new Stafford location will be one of the first of a new design concept called the "PETCO Millennium Store." This new store design has two distinct differences from the previous PETCO store designs. The first and most notable change is that upon entering, one is greeted by a vast family of companion animals. The second is a new signage program that focuses on educating owners about pet care tips such as proper diet, exercise, grooming and housing, all of which help establish PETCO as the "Pet Authority."
"We are looking forward to becoming a part of the community," said Store Manager Gail Daniels. "The focus of this grand opening will be the pets," Daniels added.
Rescue groups will be available throughout the weekend offering both information and adoptions. In addition there will be information about obedience training, free pet nail trims and premium food demonstrations. For the kids, a clown offering balloons and face painting will be available on Saturday.
The 12,000 square foot store features a small animal and reptile area, fresh and saltwater fish aquariums, a bird room and a grooming salon. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
