PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. announces the promotion of Fred Major to Senior Vice President of Information Systems. Major joined the San Diego-based company 14 years ago at the early stages of PETCO's development into a leading neighborhood premium pet food, supplies and services retailer that now operates more than 565 stores in 41 states and the District of Columbia.

Major, who formed the Information Systems Department more than a decade ago, has been witness to the company's tremendous growth. Along with that growth has come the need for more sophisticated information and communications systems, and Major's department has always risen to that challenge.

"I'm proud of the accomplishments my department has achieved as PETCO has grown and prospered," Major said. "And I'm glad I can bring my 14 years of experience to a senior management position, to help contribute to the future success of this enterprise."

A native San Diegan, Major worked at General Dynamics before joining the PETCO team. Major's family includes wife, Cara, and six children (including three daughters and three Cavalier King Charles Spaniels).
