PETCO Animal Supplies, Inc. announces the grand opening of the newly remodeled New York, NY, store, located at 147 E. 86th Street, Friday, July 11 through Sunday, July 13. PETCO -- with the help of North Shore Animal League -- will use this event to promote adoptions of orphaned companion animals.

As part of the effort to encourage adoptions, PETCO stores offer Adoption Gift Booklets to new pet parents, with savings of up to $180 on store products and services to help welcome their new family member home.

Pets and their people will have plenty to do during this three-day celebration, including participating in animal-related contests and games, learning more about PETCO services or just enjoying some free refreshments. And there will be a clown to keep the kids entertained, as well as hamster races and a coloring contest to keep them involved. A Best Pet Photo Contest will take place Friday, and Biggest/Smallest Dog Contests will be held over the weekend, along with Pet Games (everyone's a winner) on Saturday and Sunday.

"This is going to be a great weekend," says Store General Manager Ian Brooks. "We have great customers here, and they and their pets are going to absolutely love this new store format."

This prototype includes a more open, brighter store, where customers are greeted by the animals, and includes the increasingly popular pet bar. The design is based largely on customer input for an optimum shopping experience.
