SAN DIEGO, May 17, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Petco today launched a new multi-platform creative campaign in support of its wellness and grooming offerings at local stores. The campaign includes a new television spot highlighting the company's 7-Point Pet Care Check as well as an online video series spotlighting the personal stories of Petco stylists and how they help pet parents keep their pets happy and healthy each and every day.
"Pets are an extension of every family and we understand how important it is for pet parents to keep their furry friends not just looking good, but feeling good," said Steve Lossing, senior vice president of operations at Petco. "With our 7-Point Pet Care Check we aim to support every pet's holistic health – including their mind, body and spirit – leaving pet parents with the peace of mind that they have an ally in their pet's wellness."
In addition to asking pet parents about their pet's age, activity level, diet, any health concerns, current vaccinations and any medications their pet may be on, the 7-Point Pet Care Check is designed to assess the pet from nose to tail, making sure every pet appears healthy on the outside and also visually looking to identify any possible issues pet parents may need to address with a veterinarian.
7-Point Pet Care Check
Eyes: As a sign of health, pet stylists look to see if a pet's eye color is bright. If the eyes are dull in color or have a green or yellow discharge, there may be an underlying issue such as an allergy, infection or something more serious.
Ears: It's natural for a pet to have an odor to its ears, but when the odor is strong, there may be an issue. Ears that are swollen, tender and have discharge are also red flags for pet stylists.
Nose: Pet stylists check for changes in texture and color. A prolonged dry, cracked nose, particularly with loss of pigmentation, scabs or open sores as well as contact sensitivity and nasal discharge can be warning signs.
Mouth & Teeth: Decaying teeth and swollen gums could be signs of gum disease while healthy teeth with puffy gums, can signal a different health issue.
Paw Pads: Cracked pads typically result from irritants, diet or rough terrain, and are not necessarily indicators of a more serious problem. However, based on history of the pet, a pet stylist might recommend a visit to the veterinarian.
Skin & Coat: Pet stylists run their hands along the pet's body to check for bumps, scrapes, lumps, hot spots, warts and matting. Any raised surface would be a sign that further inspection by a veterinarian may be necessary.
Underside: Odors, matting or insects on a pet's underside are all concerning issues for pet stylists. They will check for these symptoms as well as any red, swollen or irritated skin.
In addition to the 7-Point Pet Care Check, Petco's grooming salon offerings include a full-service bath, as well as a full-service bath with haircut and a number of optional upgrades including teeth brushing, nail buffing and de-shedding treatment. The salons also offer walk-in services including "face, feet & fanny" trims, ear cleaning and nail trims.
As part of the wellness and grooming campaign launch, Petco is offering customer promotions including: $20 in PALS rewards with a grooming salon purchase of $40 or more and $20 off Petco Positive Dog Training group classes and packages.
