As Chief Stores Officer, James supports Petco’s more than 26,000 pet care center partners (employees) at over 1,400 Petco locations in United States and Puerto Rico. He leads strategy execution and all operations with a focus on offering the best pet care experience possible.
A sales and retail veteran, James brings to Petco more than 20 years of experience and an impressive track record of leading diverse, high-performing teams. He is driven by a deep passion for the industry and is known for reinvigorating the in-store environment at iconic omnichannel brands, through a relentless focus on the customer.
Prior to joining Petco, James served as Executive Vice President, Global Stores for Abercrombie & Fitch, where he led teams across 5 brands, 16 countries and more than 800 stores. He initially joined the company as a part-time associate while attending university and then worked his way through the manager training program as well as numerous store and field leadership roles, before rounding out his 23-year tenure in executive leadership.

James was drawn to the pet-human bond from an early age. Growing up, he and his family constantly welcomed stray dogs and shelter pets into their New York home on Long Island with wide, open arms. Outside of work, James enjoys being a hands-on parent to his three children and prioritizes playing an active role in their everyday life activities.
James holds a bachelor's degree in business administration, management and operations from Hofstra University. He and his family are based in Columbus, Ohio.
