Interim Chief Merchant
As Interim Chief Merchant, Shari is responsible for developing and driving Petco's global merchandising and owned-brand strategy across all categories, including operations, visual merchandising and wholesale.
Since joining Petco in 2017, Shari has held leadership positions within the company’s consumables, supplies and owned-brand categories, playing pivotal roles in key strategic efforts. A proven retail leader, Shari is driven by her deep passion for animal welfare, her love of developing and motivating high-performing teams, and her diverse background in the world of consumer products — which includes experience across merchandising, brand management, sales and analytics.
Prior to joining Petco, Shari held various Senior Buyer roles at Target, where she was responsible for leading the cards and party, school and office, and bedding departments, as well as their private health and beauty brands. Previously, she held brand management and marketing roles at Unilever, supporting global and US-based hair care brands such as Suave and Sunsilk.
One of the highlights of Shari’s Unilever experience was living in Paris, France and leading a cross-functional team focused on driving global innovation for Sunsilk Hair Care across Europe and the American continent.
Shari serves on the board of directors for Petco México and has been involved in both for-profit and non-profit boards throughout her career. Committed to preserving and further fomenting Petco’s unique and inclusive culture, she led the development of Petco’s current company values, and dedicates time to mentoring and coaching aspiring leaders within the organization.
Shari earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from University of Michigan and a master’s degree in marketing, strategy and nonprofit management from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. She and her two rescue dogs, Callie and Cabo, are based at Petco’s National Support Center in San Diego.
