SAN DIEGO, June 30, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Petco today announced a series of family-friendly, national in-store events happening in July to help nurture the unique and powerful bond between pets and pet parents. The roster of seasonal events will kick-off with Olympic silver medalist Gus Kenworthy, who will be making an in-store appearance at the Union Square Petco store in New York on July 9 to celebrate "Adoptions at Petco," where Petco and Unleashed by Petco locations nationwide will all host adoption events.
In support of the adoption festivities, Petco today released a new video in the "Think Adoption First" series, starring Kenworthy. The Olympic and X Games medalist has gained prominence both for his accomplishments on the slopes as well as his passion for animal welfare. The new video chronicles Kenworthy's efforts to encourage pet parents to consider adopting a pet in need instead of purchasing one.
"I've travelled all over the world and there seems to be one thing in common everywhere I go, pets in need. I've seen firsthand the positive impact shelter pets can have and how incredibly special the bond is when you've helped save an animal's life," Kenworthy said. "There's no greater feeling than opening your heart and home to a pet in need and I'm proud to be an advocate for all pets who need our support."
In addition to the adoption events, Petco will showcase a series of family friendly in-store events throughout the month including:
