SAN DIEGO, Sept. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Petco today released the eighth new video in their "Think Adoption First" video series starring New York Times best-selling author, lifestyle blogger and pet parent, Katherine Schwarzenegger. Schwarzenegger celebrates adoption with a story of how she formed a unique human-animal bond with her adopted dog, Maverick – who was found abandoned under a Los Angeles freeway at just four weeks old. Since then, Maverick has enriched her life in a way she didn't know existed before.
The new video is part of Petco's larger "Think Adoption First" initiative, which encourages anyone looking to add a new pet to their family to consider adopting a homeless animal, rather than purchasing one. In an effort to connect potential new pet parents with adoptable pets, Petco will be hosting a special "All for Saving Lives" national adoption weekend event, September 10-11, at Petco and Unleashed by Petco stores nationwide.
"My dog Maverick and I are so happy to be a part of such an amazing campaign with Petco! It's so important to promote awareness around animal rescue and the number of dogs and cats that are in need of a home," Schwarzenegger said. "By doing this video we hope to shine a light on amazing dogs, like Maverick, that can change your life for the better and show you the meaning of unconditional love."
"At Petco we are committed to nurturing powerful relationships between people and pets, and we're doing all we can to help homeless pets find loving families and forever homes," said David Hallisey, Petco Vice President, Communications. "We're excited to have Katherine tell the moving story of how Maverick came into her life. We hope her story will influence potential pet parents to open their hearts and homes to an animal in need during one of Petco's monthly adoption events."
Petco and the Petco Foundation help unite pets with their forever families by partnering with thousands of local animal welfare organizations nationwide through in-store adoption events. To date, Petco has helped more than 5 million pets find loving homes, investing more than $167 million since 1999 to help promote and improve the welfare of companion animals.
